Consumers are increasingly attracted to tablets
According to a study by analyst firm Boston Consulting Group, consumers seem to be interested in the touch pads and electronic books, which could become very common objects.
The study indicates that 51% of respondents have heard of these new devices and 73% of them even provide them to equip the next three years.
“The survey suggests that e-books and shelves are not products reserved for technophiles, but could become the MP3 players of this decade. The grandmothers will walk soon with “says John Rose, an analyst at BCG.
Regarding the need for consumer use, 84% of respondents use it to surf the Internet, 81% to handle their email, while still taking advantage of the multimedia capabilities offered.
“Some will use these devices instead of computers – not people who need the power to make pictures, but people who want to browse the internet on occasion and do their mail,” predicts Mr. Rose.
However, consumers are not yet quite willing to take the plunge seen the quote currently proposed. U.S. consumers surveyed are willing to pay 100-150 dollars for a single-use tablet (such as Amazon’s Kindle) and 130-200 dollars for a multi-purpose tray.
In reading this study, the analyst Paul Ausick (247WallSt.com) believes that the future of electronic books and shelves will depend on consumer expectations:
If buyers think they buy a computer full of possibilities for $ 200, they will be disappointed, the noise run, and the market will collapse. But if clients understand that the blocks are limited to certain functions which they excel, and the price is low enough, satisfied customers lead to more sales.
Mr. Ausick indicates that the market entry of other manufacturers, like HP and Dell, to push prices down.
